Crafters Inspiration - Issue 2

Cute Drawer Easel Card

Materials & Equipment
  • 3 Pieces of A4 Card Stock
  • Hougie Score Board
  • Crafters Inspiration Issue 2 Cd Rom
  • Scissors
  • Double Sided pads
  • Ultra Red Tape
  • Co-ordinating ribbon and 1 Brad

1) Start with cutting a A4 sheet of card down to 6 inch wide by 10 1/2 inch long
2)With the card in the landscape position score a the 4inch mark, 5inch, 9 inch and 10 inch mark.
3)Turn the card anti clockwise and score at the 4 and 5 inch marks.
4)Turn your card so the large 4 inch square is at the bottom right hand corner and cut away so that your template looks like the image below. Apply Ultra red tape to the tabs and adhere.

5) For the drawer cut a piece of card to 14.9cm x 14.9cm (sorry for all you crafters using inches, cut a 6 inch square and cut 1/8 off the top and bottom). The main thing is the finished square needs to be slightly smaller than a 6 inch square.
6) Now to scoring....score at the 1 inch mark, turn the card and score at 1 inch, continue scoring so that you have a 1 inch score line on all 4 sides.
7) Cut away as indicated by the red sections shown below and punch a hole for the brad as indicated below.
8)Use ultra red tape on the tabs and stick on the inside.

To make the easel card for the top of the box cut a piece of card to 4 inch wide by 8 inch.
9)With the card placed landscape score at 4 inch and 6 inch mark.
10) Cut a piece of co-ordinating card to 4 inch square, attach to the easel by only adding tape just under halfway up.
11) Use the Crafter Inspiration cd rom and print of toppers and card of your choice (I've used the woodland characters for this box)

12) Attach a piece of ribbon as above before you adhere your easel card. Fold down the card and tie the ribbon in a bow to give as a gift.

13)When the easel is open tie the ribbon in a bow as shown below.

Happy Crafting!!!!

Window Card

17th September 2013

Deck the Halls

Materials:
  • Distress Ink pad(weathered wood)
  • Distress Ink pad(tumbled glass)
  • Distress Ink pad (Bundled Sage)
  • Tim Holtz Applicator tool and foam pad
  • Black Archival Ink Pad
  • Clarity Repositionable Set of 3 Tree Stamps
  • Clarity Merry Christmas Stamp
  • Britannia Die - Ivy
  • Pearlescent Card (Light green, Ivy green, Royal Blue)
  • Tonic Snowflake punch
  • Liquid Pearls (white opal)
  • Copy paper
  • Post-its
  • Hunkydory white Ink-Me Card
  • White 8x8 inch Scalloped card
  • Collall Tacky Glue
  • Superfine glitter

Create the Scene
1) Cut a piece of card 14cm square.
2) Use the black ink pad and stamp Merry Christmas in the top right hand corner. Then stamp 3 trees at varying heights.
3) Rip some copy paper to create hills, lay the ripped edge along the base of the tree trunks and apply some bundled sage ink (less if more you only want a light application)
4) Continue using the same technique to create hills in the background.
5) Cut a small circle on the sticky edge of a post-it (10p size works well). Apply the circle in the sky area (this will act as a mask to create a moon) add some weathered wood and tumbled glass ink to create the sky, remove the post-it.
6) Now the scary bit...cut your creation into 4 pieces (7cm x 7cm)

7) Cut the blue card (7 1/4 Inch square) and adhere to the scalloped card with double sided tape. Cut the light green card to 6 3/4 inch square and adhere on top of the blue piece). Place the 7cm pieces into position, lift 1 piece at a time adhere tacky glue to the back and stick down, continue with all the pieces.

8) Cut 2 pieces of ivy and arrange and glue into place. Attach some snowflakes to embellish and some glitter as desired.

Clarity Stamp Card

To make this card I used:
  • Distress Ink pad(weathered wood)
  • Distress Ink pad(tumbled glass)
  • Distress Ink pad (Mowed Lawn)
  • Tim Holtz Applicator tool and foam pad
  • White pigment ink pad
  • Emerald Green Archival Ink Pad
  • Clarity Forest Ridge stamp
  • Clarity Maple Autumn leaf set
  • Britannia Die - Ivy
  • Pearlescent Green Card
  • X-cut Scalloped oval die
  • Liquid Pearls (white opal)
  • Copy paper
  • Hunkydory white Ink-Me Card
  • C5 card
  • Double Sided tape and pads
Background
1) Cut a piece of ink-me card 1cm smaller in height and width than the card front.
2) Stamp the background using the white ink pad using the maple leaf stamp.
3) Use the a blend of the 2 blue distress inks to colour the background, give the card a few minutes to dry and buff off the ink from the white leaves to allow them to show through.

Oval Scene
1) Cut out a large scalloped oval from the white ink-me card.
2) Stamp the forest ridge using the green archival ink pad about a third from the bottom of the oval.
3) Apply some the weathered wood distress ink with the blending tool at top of the oval and about halfway down to create a sky, leave areas of white to create a more realistic scene.
4) Add hills using the mowed lawn distress ink. To do this rip some copy paper and use this to mask the sky so you only add the green ink on the bottom part.

Mat and Layer
Use whatever adhesive you prefer, I used double side tape on the back of the leaf background and positioned it leaving a 5mm border. I added 2mm double sided pads on the back of the oval die and 1mm pads on the back of the ivy dies.

Embellish
1) Use the ivy die to cut 4 sprigs using the green pearlescent card, arrange and stick down as desired
2) Use some liquid pearls and randomly dot to create a snow effect

Hope this card inspires you, feel free to comment x

News June 2013

Creations made in June 2013

Here is small selection of cards we have been making at in our classes at MJ Crafts this month

Above "What a Hoot" stamp, used in combination with Sheena Douglass Stamps

The card below is made using the stamps from issue 11 of Creative Stamping

Martha Stewart paper clay has been used below to make the lily card on the left. Simply roll out the clay to about 3-4 mm thick and push your chosen rubber stamp (I used a Sheena Douglass lily stamp) to give you an impression, then cut off the excess clay with scissors (I did this whilst still wet). To colour rub your ink blending mat with distress ink, spritz the ink with water and use this to paint the clay (again I did this step whilst wet ), finish with Perfect Pearls if desired.

Cosmic shimmer flake and glitter is a must for me right now and it works perfectly with my perfect pearls (pictured below)

We have now introduced fabric in fat quarters, can you guess I'm loving owls right now!!!

Art Journal/Mixed Media Pages May 2013

Art Journal/Mixed Media May 2013

For a long time now I've wanted to do more mixed media projects so this month I decided to run a workshop to create 5" x 7" artwork.

The "create" piece was made using a piece of mount board covered with sticky-back canvas, and "Stephanie Barnard" sprays to add colour to the background. I used a Ranger tred, and paint to add the leaves. A range of other products were used - gilding flakes, gilding wax, Liquid Pearls, UTEE, stamps, molds, Fimo, distress inks etc.

The "inspire" piece is my favourite, I used a Crafters Workshop stencil, distress inks, a newsprint stamp and some die cut flowers.

I liked the design so thought I would finally start an art journal and made this my first page (below images)

At this point I wanted to add some Zentangle (doodling)so the design was unique to me and more personal.

The images below are also created on Mount/canvas, using paints on the background, a peacock stencil, Distress inks, gilding flakes, Liquid Pearls, Clarity leaf stamps and UTEE and a cookie cutter for the leaves.

Well that's it for now.....more images to follow shortly x

More pics as promised.............

Embossing Paste

 Handmade Embossing Paste

So many crafters will have tried using stencils and a range of pastes and mediums to create dimension with your craft projects, one of my customers mentioned to me they had seen a demonstration with homemade paste using paint and decorators filler, so I thought I'd give it a try.

I used a ready mixed interior filler (other brands available), added a small amount of crafters acrylic paint and mixed with a metal spatula on a sheet of acetate.

I used a stencil from Crafters Workshop onto a torn piece of charcoal pearlescent card, and spread the paste with my spatula and lifted the stencil straight away before it dried.

I found that the filler dries quickly so if you are an impatient crafter like myself there's no waiting around, mine dried in about 10 minutes. I used my Ranger heat tool to speed up the drying time and there were no side effects to the filler and it dried quicker about 5 Minutes.

Wash your stencil straight away with warm soapy water to remove any of the filler and paint

This is the result you get.........

I tried to experiment adding Glossy Accents, but the consistency becomes to runny and bleeds under the stencil. I also tried adding glitter, but it was lost in the colour and texture so didn't really give good results.

So give it a go and message me with your results!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stencils from Imagination Crafts

Stencils by Imagination Crafts

I have been experimenting with these gorgeous stencils from Imagination Crafts using a range of products and materials.

I really like using the sparkle medium, it's really easy to apply with a spatula, remove the stencil straight away and leave to dry. I keep a container of warm water to wash my stencils and they clean off really well.

The results are stunning with a high volume of glitter giving you maximum wow. I have tried the medium on fabric pictured above and it is flexible and seems quite robust. I would not recommend it for clothes as it would probably just wash off need to test this more!!!

The Sparkle medium is also beautiful on acetate (takes about an hour to dry in a warm room)

I also used the stencils with Distress Inks (below)

I have also used the stenils and sponged flake and glitter glue through the design and used gilding flakes as below, the owl stamp is from Clarity Stamps
